Shoes for Experienced Walkers, 2008
Leather, altered rubber soles
Each 21 × 30 × 12 cm

Colour video, silent
2' loop

The artist custom-built these walking shoes for rough terrain during a journey in Norway. This involved cutting standard mountain-style rubber soles in half and gluing the two front parts and the two back parts together. The stitching forms the infinity symbol around the shoes, extending to the asymmetrical tongue. This work lies at the crossroads of design, sculpture and performance: initially shown in a video with the artist testing them on rocky ground, the shoes later became full-fledged sculptural objects.
