Display case 80 × 60 × 60 cm

An illuminated globe perched on the jade base of an old bedside lamp stands in a recessed display case. The area of the globe facing viewers shows China and neighbouring countries, some of which, like China, are experiencing economic expansion and constant development. The globe remains lit day and night, even when the exhibition venue is closed. The lamp’s jade base raises the question of the symbolism of the work’s components. In the East, for example, jade is credited with multiple qualities, including the power to ward off evil spirits and prevent bodily decay.
