The Infinite House (House Number), 2012
Stainless steel
9 × 14.5 × 1 cm

The artist replaced the house number at the entrance to Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain in Luxembourg with an exact copy of the number 8 that marks his own house. Positioned horizontally in both places, the sideways 8 recalls the infinity symbol. Even before one enters the exhibition space, this almost imperceptible conversion raises the question of home, of the places that define one’s town or city, one’s roots. The act of entering a place self-defined as the house of infinity invites looking beyond overly obvious, sim plistic identity clichés in each individual’s complex makeup, suggesting a more nomadic, universal realm of identification for learning to live together.
